Overview
Starti TrustLayer is an automated traffic quality layer that helps protect your campaign spend throughout the delivery lifecycle.
TrustLayer works across two stages:
Before bidding: TrustLayer evaluates available inventory for suspicious traffic signals, such as detected VPN or data-center traffic. When those signals are identified, your campaign does not bid on that opportunity.
After delivery: TrustLayer analyzes served impressions and household-level delivery patterns to identify potential quality issues, such as low viewability or abnormal exposure.
If a household is flagged based on these delivery signals, TrustLayer prevents future delivery to that household. Impressions associated with the flagged delivery are excluded from billing according to TrustLayer's traffic-quality rules. Together, these protections help you reduce exposure to low-quality traffic before spend occurs and respond to quality issues identified after delivery.
Why it matters
Filter suspicious traffic before bidding
TrustLayer screens available inventory before your campaign bids. When suspicious traffic characteristics are detected, the campaign does not place a bid, helping reduce spend on potentially low-quality inventory.
Identify quality issues after delivery
Some traffic-quality issues may only become visible after an ad is served. TrustLayer continues analyzing delivery signals to identify low viewability, abnormal impression patterns, and other indicators of inefficient traffic.
Reduce repeated delivery to flagged households
If a household is flagged based on problematic delivery patterns, TrustLayer prevents additional delivery to that household to reduce continued inefficient spend.
Keep billing aligned with traffic quality
Eligible impressions associated with subsequently flagged delivery can be excluded from billing, helping keep campaign charges aligned with TrustLayer's traffic-quality rules.
Add an ongoing layer of traffic-quality protection
TrustLayer operates throughout campaign delivery rather than relying only on a single pre-bid check.
How TrustLayer works
TrustLayer follows a continuous traffic-quality process:
Screen available inventory for suspicious traffic signals before bidding.
Filter inventory that does not meet TrustLayer's traffic-quality requirements.
Analyze served impressions and household-level delivery patterns after delivery.
Flag and block households showing problematic delivery characteristics to prevent future exposure.
Apply billing protection to qualifying impressions according to TrustLayer's traffic-quality rules.
Stage One: Pre-Bid Traffic Protection
Before your campaign enters an auction, TrustLayer evaluates available traffic signals.
When inventory shows suspicious characteristics — such as detected VPN or data-center traffic — your campaign does not bid on that opportunity.
This means:
No bid is placed.
No campaign spend is committed to that opportunity.
Suspicious traffic can be filtered before it becomes campaign spend.
Pre-bid protection helps focus your campaign's bidding activity on inventory that meets TrustLayer's traffic-quality requirements.
Stage Two: Post-Delivery Quality Analysis
Not every traffic-quality issue can be identified before delivery. TrustLayer therefore continues analyzing your campaign after impressions are served.
It analyzes household-level delivery signals, including:
Ad visibility and viewability
Abnormal impression patterns
Repeated or unusual exposure behavior
Other delivery characteristics that may indicate inefficient or low-quality traffic
If a household is flagged based on these signals, TrustLayer prevents future delivery to that household.
How Pre-Bid and Post-Delivery Protection Work Together
Pre-bid filtering and post-delivery analysis work together to protect traffic quality throughout your campaign.
Before the bid: filter suspicious inventory.
After delivery: identify traffic-quality issues that become visible after an impression is served.
Going forward: prevent additional delivery to flagged households.
For billing: exclude qualifying impressions according to TrustLayer's traffic-quality rules.
Together, these stages help reduce inefficient spend both before and after delivery.
